Erion works daily to increase its environmental performance through waste management that is increasingly efficient and attentive to the respect of the territory, the health of citizens, and the preservation of resources.

In 2021, Erion WEEE organized 131,797 waste transports (+5.1% vs. 2020) from Collection Centers/Grouping Places to treatment plants, achieving a service level of 99.05%.

In 2021 out of a total of 266,614 tons of Household WEEE managed, 238,315 tons (or 89.4%) were sent to recycling; 11,992 tons (4.5%) to energy valorization; and the remaining 16,307 tons (6.1%) to disposal (thermal and landfill).

Erion’s commitment to safeguarding the Planet’s natural resources translates into the quantity of Secondary Raw Materials obtained from the treatment of WEEE. In 2021, among the various materials obtained from recycling, the main one is iron with 134,920 tons, equal to 50.6% of the quantities, followed by plastics with 35.410 t (13.3%), glass with 27,143 t (10.2%) and concrete with 21,797 t (8.2%).

In line with the provisions of the most important international climate agreements, Erion WEEE operational strategies aimed at mitigating the environmental impacts generated by the management of Household WEEE  both in terms of energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. In particular, in 2021 the benefit deriving from the correct management of WEEE can be quantified in a saving of more than 400 kWh and almost 1.8 million tons of CO2eq.
