Household WEEE

The operational activities of the Erion System associated with Household WEEE, including logistics and processing, despite considering the environmental impacts of transportation and manufacturing, ensure the safe handling of environmentally critical fractions and the recovery of secondary raw materials, generating environmental benefits in terms of saving natural resources, energy consumption, and greenhouse gas emissions in the atmosphere.

In 2023, thanks to the proper management of Household WEEE, over 1.5 million tons of CO2eq were avoided and over 335 million kWh were saved.

Recycled raw materials from Household WEEE

In 2023, 118,646 transports were made for the collection of Household WEEE, about 3% less than in 2022, in line with the decrease in managed volumes. The service level achieved, related only to household waste, was 99.23%.

Out of a total of 232,023 tons of Household WEEE managed in 2023, 204,222 tons (88% of the total) were sent for recycling; 15,209 tons (about 7%) for energy recovery; while the remaining 12,592 tons (about 5%) were disposed of (through thermal treatment and landfill).

PERCENTAGE OF MATERIALS DESTINED FOR RECYCLING, ENERGY RECOVERY AND DISPOSAL IN 2023

Erion’s commitment to the conservation of the planet’s natural resources is demonstrated by the quantity of Secondary Raw Materials derived from the processing of WEEE. In 2023, among the various materials obtained from recycling, the main ones were ferrous metals with 126,212 tons, accounting for 54.4% of the total. This was followed by plastics with 29,070 tons (12.6%), cement with 18,003 tons (7.8%), and glass with 9,789 tons (5.9%).
