The operational activity of the Erion multiple Collective Schemes System associated with the logistics and treatment processes, while considering the environmental impacts of transport and processing, allows for the securing of environmentally critical fractions and the recovery of primary and secondary materials, generating environmental benefits in terms of savings of natural resources, energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere.

In 2022, thanks to the proper management of Household WEEE, 1.8 million tons of CO2eq were avoided and 380 million kWh were saved.

Raw materials recycled

In 2022, 122,266 transports were carried out for the collection of Household WEEE, approximately 7% less than in 2021, in line with the decrease in volumes managed. The service level, relating to household waste alone, was of 96.3%.

In 2022 on the total of 246,246 tonnes of Household WEEE collected, 220,224 tonnes (about 89% of the total) was sent for recycling; 13,607 tonnes (6%) to energy recovery; the remaining 12,415 tonnes (5%) to disposal (thermal or landfill).

PERCENTAGE OF MATERIALS DESTINED FOR RECYCLING, ENERGY RECOVERY AND DISPOSAL IN 2022

Erion’s commitment to safeguarding the planet’s natural resources translates into the quantity of Secondary Raw Materials obtained from the treatment of WEEE. In 2022, among the various materials obtained from recycling, the main one was iron with 125,501 tons, equal to 50.8% of the total. Plastics follow with 35,571 t (13.5%), glass with 22,976 t (9.3%) and cement with 19,459 t (7.9%).
