MENUMENU
Erion WEEE is the national Collective Scheme for managing Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE), in order to comply with the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) requirements set out in Legislative Decree 49/2014, which implements Directive 2012/19/EU.
As of 31 December 2024, the Collective Scheme had 1,595 members and managed around 67% of Italian Household WEEE.
In 2024, Erion WEEE managed 237,728 tonnes of Household WEEE which was approximately 2.5% more than in 2023. The 88% was sent for recycling, resulting in 208,699 tonnes of Secondary Raw Materials being returned to the production cycle.
Erion WEEE’s proper management of Household WEEE helped save 323,827,405 kWh of energy and prevented 791,368 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent from being emitted into the environment.
In 2024, Erion WEEE launched a series of initiatives aimed at improving the waste chain and encouraging responsible WEEE management practices among the general public.
“DireFareRAEE” is a major communication programme launched by Erion WEEE in 2022 and continued in 2023 and 2024. The programme aims to raise awareness among Italian citizens of the importance of correctly disposing of and recycling WEEE. The member producers of the Collective Scheme deemed this investment of more than four million euros necessary in order to address an information gap affecting young people in particular.
Other initiatives carried out by Erion WEEE include organizing a tour for the ‘Materia Viva’ documentary film, which was screened in 84 locations across Italy. In addition, the ‘Materia Viva a scuola di RAEE’ educational project was developed for secondary school students.
